The new Mazda Connect on my gen 4 is much nicer than the previous gen but I don't use it as I'm always on CarPlay. The experience isn't quite as nice on a non-widescreen display. There are wireless adapters you can buy to make it wireless CarPlay but those are very hit-and-miss in terms of compatibility/working. Just bought a new Mazda3 (Select Package) and even though Apple Carplay was advertised as a feature, I can not for the life of me figure out how to actually enable it. Android Auto works without issue which is great for me because I have a Galaxy S10, but my dad's iPhone 6S simply seems incapable of triggering the application.

The only video I can find regarding the Apple CarPlay retrofit on a Mazda3 with the USB hub positioned in the front of the vehicle (dash) is not a good guide! I really need help with the best method of approaching this.

I'm pretty sure all you can get is wired CarPlay on the gen 3. Officially thereā€™s only wired CarPlay. I havenā€™t noticed any delay in audio on wired CarPlay. If you use a wireless adapter Iā€™ve found that they lag on audio and GPS. The start up doesnā€™t change on the infotainment screen. Buy a dash kit and a wiring adapter, attack the wiring adapter to your new head unit, remove your stock radio, install the dash kit, then install the head unit. This is also an EXCELLENT time to install a back up camera as the head unit will display the image. Did this in my Silverado. T0KZ1gb.
